Alex Vedrinski
When somebody calls
me a turkey, I consider that a compliment, said Alex Vedrinski.
Its that attitude, eight Ohio state, two grand national
and one world championship gobbling titles that has Vedrinski
taking pride in being called a turkey. The gobbling guru will
present two seminars at the Northeast Ohio Sportsman Show and
promises to leave audience members entertained and educated.
Theres a lot of people
throughout the industry who can mimic the sounds but there are
not a lot of people who can gobble with their natural voice without
using some kind of device, Vedrinski stated. When
they leave that seminar, I want them to say, Ive
never seen a seminar like that before. I try to keep it
really fun, entertaining and interesting. In this day and age,
education is probably the most important thing in hunting or
any sport. We owe it to the wildlife to do it the right way,
said Vedrinski, who presents other wildlife seminars.
Outside of the competitive gobbling
arena, the Streetsboro, Ohio man, co-owner of Chestnut Ridge
Wild Turkey Calls, is a well-known hunting guide who has led
groups as far away as Colorado and Maine. Whether its moose,
bear or elk, Vedrinski knows the outdoors and what makes big
game do what they do. He will share his big game knowledge in
a rut hunting seminar that he affectionately entitles: Rut
Hunting for Anything Thats in Love.
I will share with them
techniques and why they do what they do, and anything hunters
need to do to be successful during the rut, he explained.
While Vedrinski spends the majority
of his time in the outdoors, he confesses to not guiding many
turkey hunts. I enjoy turkey hunting myself too much, and
I dont want to give my time up.
Its that love for the sport
that began nearly 30 years ago when he started turkey hunting
and gobbling.
I am fortunate to gobble
with my natural voice, he said.
For the last 20 years, Vedrinski
has gobbled competitively in state, national and world gobbling
contests and also during his seminars. While he does not teach
audiences how to gobble with their natural voice, Vedrinskis
turkey hunting seminar instructs hunters how to make turkeys
gobble and locate the feathered prey in the wild.
As the popularity of turkey hunting
continues to increase, more hunters are learning first hand the
challenge of turkey hunting and that is leading more people to
gobbling.
For me, turkey hunting
is more challenging than deer hunting. Theres a lot of
people who hunt deer but theres not many people who are
deer hunters. Turkey hunters need to know the terrain and mimic
the sounds and call them. Its a little more challenging.
Looking ahead to the January
sportsman show, Vedrinski remarked, Im 58 years old
and where else but in America can I go out and make people laugh
and go through gyrations and gobble on the stage. You cant
do that in Russia.
With a guarantee like that, who
wont want to attend the gobbling champs seminars.
